Curi por Gato

Como si fuera la feria de la reelección, Nicolás Curi Vergara fue nombrado por tercera vez alcalde de Cartagena de Indias. Esta vez no fue tan fácil y a decir verdad debe de haber gato encerrado. Por que? Pues porque hubo una abstención del 78% en Cartagena. SETENTA Y OCHO POR CIENTO. Dicen que la gente se asustó por tanto policia y soldado en las calles. hmmm.. no se, vuelvo y reitero: hay gato encerrado. Curi obtuvo casi 55,000 votos en una ciudad con casi un millón de habitantes y un potencial electoral de casi 550,000. Y saben cual es el otro pedazo de la historia? Hubo casi 41,000 votos en blanco el cual superó a la segunda opción, Mery Luz Londoño que obtuvo 13,000.

Curi dijo que "el pueblo eligió solo". EL PUEBLO ELIGIÓ SOLO??? Señor Curi: el pueblo NO ELIGIÓ. Cartagena, la ciudad turistica número uno de Colombia tiene alrededor del 60% de su población viviendo en la pobreza. Como puede un pueblo que vive en la pobreza reelegir por tercera vez a la misma persona? No ven que alguien ha sido incapaz de hacer bien la tarea que le fue asignada? No ven que ese alguien puede ser este alcalde que lleva consigo mas de 50 procesos por corrupción?

Cuando le preguntan a Curi por sus grandes logros él dice con orgullo "haber llevado al Real Cartagena a la primera división del fútbol colombiano". Y que pasa con ese 60% de la población que vive en la miseria?

Antes de terminar quiero mostrar algo curioso. El periódico EL UNIVERSAL publicó lo siguiente: Bermúdez ( el futuro presidente del Concejo durante la administración Curí), quien apoyó a Curi durante su campaña a la Alcaldía, expresa también que el Alcalde electo es una "persona servicial que no escatima esfuerzos para ayudar a sus amigos."

Esto me deja sin palabras. Como puede alguien decir una frase de esas en público? Para ayudar a sus amigos? Que tristeza.

Y la moraleja de la histoia es: así como aveces meten gato por liebre, al pueblo cartagenero le metieron curi por gato.

The man of the week (1)

The man of the week is Timo Soini. Known throughout Finland for his love and fight for a more multicultural country. If Timo, or Tomy, is elected president we will live in an even friendlier and warmer place.

Note: this post is joke. Actually Timo Soini is the presidential representative of the Perussuomalaiset party (translated as Basic-Finns or True-Finns). He focuses his campaign in the struggle to take Finland out of the European Union and the creation of a more Finnish state, in other words, an even less immigrant-friendly country. Another member of the Perussuomalaiset party is the controversial Tony Halme, a boxer/politician known for his right wing and homophobic tendencies.

Paintball & Ste

Apparently everytime I play Paintball here in Finland someone goes away. A month ago it was Juanda and yesterday it was Stefano's turn. People come and people go, they arrive and then they leave... I guess that life goes like that. But then again, you should always look at things from the bright side: another good friend to visit one day in order to celebrate big time. Ste left to South America, and he says he will come back to finland in 4 or 5 months. I dont know if i will be here in that time. However, i really hope and wish that we meet again.

Ser pobre sale caro

Las cosas que ocurren en Colombia. Ayer miles de colombianos hicieron filas en Corferias para renovar su carné (carnet ?) del Sisbén. Para aquellos de ustedes que no saben que es el Sisbén, pues les cuento: "Es un sistema de información diseñado por el gobierno Nacional para identificar a las personas y familias más necesitadas y vulnerables y establecer quienes requieren del apoyo del Estado. Se utiliza par la elaboración del Plan de Desarrollo Social de los municipios."

Bonita definición, pero aparentemente el que la escribió jamás se imaginó lo que ocurrió ayer en Bogotá. 1 hombre murió haciendo fila (aunque probablemente la hora le hubiera llegado ahí, o en cualquier otra parte... o no?), y muchos terminaron desmayados por causa del cansansio, fatiga, deshidratación, etc... También hubo casos de personas que viajaron de lugares lejanos para hacer fila desde las 3 de la mañana bajo el intenso frio de la sabana de Bogotá acompañado por las lluvias que jamás faltan en la capital colombiana. Muchas de estas personas no pudieron renovar su carné y volvieron a casa con un problema mas en sus vidas y una experiencia que desafortunadamente tendrán que volver a vivir si no se hacen cambios. Y no son cambios que necesitan una inversión millonaria en consultores y asesores. Son cambios de sentido común. Si saben que la gente va se ve forzada a hacer fila desde las 3 de la mañana para tener una oportunidad pues entonces pongan mas mesas, hagan la encuesta durante mas días, en mas lugares... blah blah blah.... por que no lo hacen?. No es por falta de recursos, seguro que no, no creo que los costos de medidas tan simples sean demasiado altos. Entonces?. Quien responde por la vida del señor Marulanda? Quien responde por esta injusticia SOLO A LOS MAS POBRES?. Envién a los bogotanos de estrato 6, 7, 8 y 1000 a hacer fila a las 3 de la mañana a ver que pasa... les aseguro que ahí si le pagarian quien sabe a cuantas personas para hacer la encuesta puerta a puerta.

En la página principal del Departamento Administrativo de Planeación Distrital (www.dapd.gov.co) se puede leer lo siguiente: "El excelente Servicio al Ciudadano es nuestra razón de ser" .... sin comentarios.

Guri Guri

Quien se acuerda de Guri Guri?... bueno, aca está... el Alf criollo.

La verdad no me acuerdo mucho de él... solo que aparecía en Calamar (1989). For those of you interested (few of you).. this character appeard in a colombian soap opera in the late 80's (believe ir or not ). I had forgotten about it but i rediscovered him a few weeks ago. Flashback to childhood... Just to take note: he was a disciple of the tibet monks, a kind of Yoda master... right...

Dr. Phil

Yesterday night i went with Milla to see Phil Collins in Helsinki. I am not really a fan or anything close to it but the concert was really good. Good musicians, good show. Actually i was thinking about how boring it would be because i didnt know any songs... but i was wrong.. i had heard them all at least 1235342352351 times in my life. Apparently this was Phil Collin's last tour, so better safe than sorry... at the end it was a really good idea to go there. However, i was kind of dissapointed because i was waiting for a Lion King song.. but i guess i confused the artists, it must be Elton John :S

El burro al trigo...

My mother likes to say the following phrase :'De nuevo, el burro al trigo y el pollino a la cebada'. I cant translate it directly because i dont know what 'pollino' or 'cebada' are in english. However its a sentence (or a saying?) which can be brought up when someone makes the same mistake twice.

For the second time on a row, the Colombian National Football Team (La Selección Colombia) failed to qualify to the World Cup which will be held next year in Germany. For the second time we have to wait another 4 years (actually 5 because we still have to wait for the damm World Cup to begin). For the second time we have to see everyone celebrate, laugh, cry, fight and hope, while we sit back and wonder how it would feel to have your own team there.

Many say that its better like this because the team was really bad. I dont agree. I dont care if we get knocked down in every game... i just wanted to see my team there.

But well, there is not much to do anymore, except to hope that the teams that i dont want to win dont win (did it sound right?)... Brazil (they have already won too much), France (i have never liked that team), USA (when did they get to be that good?).. etc... the list goes on...

Animal of the Week ( I )

The animal of the week is: the Skunk. This is a small animal with a black and white fur which is able to launch a fluid which contains a terrible smell in order to protect himself from predators. This 'spray' comes from two glands on either side of the anus, that produce a mixture of sulfur-containing chemicals. They have ammunition for 5 or 6 continuous reloads before they have to wait a couple of days to fill up their glands. Skunks are nocturnal, omnivoruous and solitary animals.

In finnish this animal is called haisunäätä which comes from:

smelly = haisu + näätä = weasel

What to do if you get sprayed by a skunk?

Accordign to Wikipedia, the best Anti-skunk-formula is:

- 1 U.S. Quart (approx 1 litre) of 3% hydrogen peroxide
- 1/4 cup (approx 45ml) baking soda.
- 1 teaspoon (approx 5ml) liquid soap.

Directions: Mix together at time of usage, and apply foaming mixture to affected areas.

If you dont have the previous ingredients, try some tomatoe juice.

Bird Flu, Lesson 1

U.S. President George W. Bush says the possibility of an avian flu pandemic is among the reasons he wants Congress to give him the power to use the military in law enforcement roles in the United States.

Such a deadly event would raise difficult questions, such as how a quarantine might be enforced, he said.

"I'm concerned about what an avian flu outbreak could mean for the United States and the world," Bush said

Hmmm... i dont really care how the U.S. uses its money in domestic affairs (unless it directly affects its foreign affairs), but isn't this kind of weird? I mean, shouldn't they be focusing its action plan on the social and healthcare issues rather on the military issues?.

It bothers me because i dont think that this is a good example on how to deal with situations. Many countries take the States as an example, specially mine... specially under our current government (right wing, military oriented and continuously at the mercy of the United States)
