Today, March 22nd, is the World Water Day. Its not really a celebration but rather a moment to pay attention. 'Coping with Water Scarcity' is the theme for World Water Day 2007. Just a few facts:

- The following rivers are being strongly affected by climate change and pollution: Yangtze (China), Mekong (Vietnam), Salween (Mianmar), Ganges (India) , Indo (Pakistan), Danube (Europe), Río de La Plata and Río Bravo(América), Nile-Victoria lake (Africa), and the Murria-Darling (Australia).
- 60% of the world's population will be living in regions with water scarcity by the year 2025.
- Today more than 1 billion people do not have direct access to water.
- In sub-saharan Africa, 45% of the population has no access to clean water.
- Almost 2 million children die every year because of reasons related with water quality.
- In the Arab world, the 20% reduction of rainfall will bring down the amount of water per person by half in the year 2025.
- Half of all rivers and lakes in China are polluted.
- 28 Colombian rivers are currently dying.
- 13 million colombians (out of 44 million in total) do not have access to clean water.
