I love turkey. Although its meat is kind of dry, i love it. It simbolizes christmas for me, and for that i am grateful. This year i cooked my first turkey. I marinated it for 24 hours with a recipe which i got from my mom (sauce, beer, wine, species, salt, pepper, etc...). Then i placed some strips of bacon on it and wrapped it in tin-foil. Afterwards i cooked it in the oven at 190 degrees (Celsius) for 5 hours. On the last half an hour i took off the tin foil so that it could get a golden colour.
Common turkeys derive from two species: Gallopavo (North American) and Ocellata (Central American). The females are smaller than the males and much less colourful. A juvenile turkey is known as a poult. The males are commonly called toms and the females hens.
The USDA estimated that between 260 million and 300 million turkeys are killed every year in the States. 45 million are destined for Thanksgiving and 22 million for Christmas. If you are moved by these numbers, you should visit:
